Javagal Srinath’s fastest delivery was 156 km/h (97 mph) – during the 1996 tour of South Africa. Why is he not in the list?

To conform it, you can either visit espn cricinfo(Search: Javagal Srinath: One in a billion) or Wikipedia(search: Javagal Srinath wiki).

    • Anon says:

Thats pre-posterous javagal Srinath never got past 90 mph, he was catograized as a fast medium….. he got to about 87 and 88 but on way near 90 possibly once or twice, but not 157 kmph.

“This particular delivery was reported by a major Indian News service although the exact date and the match in question has not been confirmed. Some six years on, and all three of these men now struggle to reach 140kph on a good day”

Beware of accepting simple out-of-bowlers-hand radar
measured speeds to settle this question.

Often apples are compared with pears on this question.
Speeds often quoted for Jeff Thomson were recorded as
the speed arriving at the batsman’s end (by high speed camera).
Speeds given for Shoab Akhtar/Brett Lee and others in more modern times
are speeds out of the bowlers hand as measured from the batsman’s end
(by radar gun). One metre after delivery a ball has decreased speed by
    around 0.97 km/hr.

Radar measured speeds (such as on ODI TV broadcasts) are not particularly
accurate. This is due to the fact (1) the ball is not travelling directly
at the radar, (2) is slowing through the air, and (3) rotating in the air
(presenting different seam profile). High speed frame cameras give a much
more accurate speed reading (such as the camera that captured JT’s ball
    in 1975).
If Jeff Thomson can put a ball at the batsman’s feet currently travelling
at over 160km/hr, it suggests it has been released from the hand at
something like 180km/hr …. which is a much higher speed than anything
Shoab Akhtar/Brett Lee have ever come remotely close to.

Well, Those are suggestions…guess we’ll never know how fast Jeff bowled huh ??? So my suggestion is to stay with what we know for sure. Sounds good ??????

      • Alan says:

I have seen all the fast bowlers ever since 1970, all at the ‘Gabba, & the fastest by a fair way was Thommo in 1974, Michael Holding, Dennis Lillie, Shoaib Akhtar, Shaun Tait were among the next quickest. Jeff Thomson was the fastest i’ve ever seen in 43 years.

  3. eddie says:

Shaun Tait have bowled at 161.1 km/hr against England in Natwest series, you can check it at you tube . And Brett Lee have also bowled at 161 km/hr against New Zealand but the correct result was not taken because the speedometer was not giving the decimal number.

  4. Tharaka Pathum says:

I think Brett lee and shaun tait are the fastest bowler in cricket history…
    Please correct it…
    Shaun tait – 161.1 km/hr
    Brett lee – 161.7 km/hr

    • adam says:

No the fastest delivery to date is Shoaib Akhtar’s 161.3 km/hr at the 2003 world cup.

With regards to sophisticated cameras – well you got to remember that was the 70’s. I ‘m not convinced any technology in the 70’s is more reliable than today’s technology. Sorry not convinced. It is also impossible to claim Jeff Thompson bowling in the 180 km/hr. It can be seen clearly in footage he bowls at a maximum of 147 km/hr which he was timed at.

      • Craig says:

Jeff Thompson’s speed was certainly measured as being faster than any of his contemporaries in a one-off test but there was no constant ‘every ball’ measuring as happens today. He might well have been bowling even quicker a few years earlier. Nothing can be proved one way or the other when bowlers from different eras are compared. Have to say that truly accurate measuring of anyone is probably impossible, even with modern technology. Can’t see how anyone’s speed can be measured accurately from watching TV footage. That Larwood fellow looked pretty fast! Speed from the hand is one thing, eventual speed off the ground (depending on the actual ball, the pitch and degree and height of bounce achieved) is another. Shoaib, Tait and Lee are certainly tremendously quick and Thompson was unquestionablyly King in his day, with his occasional unpredictability adding to the effect of his great speed.

  5. MR.CRICKETER says:

    2=BRET LEE

  6. ReBeLiOz Steve says:

Shaun Tait was clocked at 162.5 at Grade Cricket but ICC wont include it because it wasnt official. I still believe Taity will get to 170km/hr if he can get his elbow good again, 3 srgeries and still he is bowling consistently over 150km/hr.
All the others throw a really quick one every now and then, Taity does it always!

  7. Wiford says:

I realize names of following guys are not on the list. But if anyone has data on their fastest ever recorded speed numbers, I would be curious to know:

    Joel Garner
    Malcolm Marshall
    Allan Donald
    Shaun Pollock
    Imran Khan
    Wasim Akram
    Richard Hadlee
    Bob Willis

  8. Dhirshan Gobind says:

Merchant De Lange of SA is current fastest!

  9. syed says:

shoiab akthar is the fastest bowler,,, its deserve for him

  10. Umair says:

Waqar Younas, Wasim Akram and Muhammad Amir of Pakistan are missing from the list. Waqar and Wasim are definitely one of top 5 fast bowlers.

  11. Muhammed Nadeem says:

We are discussing here fastest bowlers not fast bowelers so i think the given list is right. The people who did not played or watch cricket and commenting here that srinath also bolled with the speed of 157 km so i think then parveen kumar would have bowled. I can Say that Shoib, lee, tait was the fastest baller of the world. I think we are missing here GI Allet NZ was a boweler who boweled more then 155 KM

  12. LufttöPfe says:
